I had the incredible opportunity to cook for Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh at a charity event.
Not only did she enjoy our display — she even took some food home — but we also shared a meaningful conversation about Urban Fusion, my journey, and the culture behind the food I create.
It was one of those “pinch me” moments.
A Black woman from Hackney.
Now living in Sheffield.
Serving the food she loves.
Standing in rooms she once only imagined.
And it reminded me of something important:
Opportunities like this are never just about talent.
Yes, preparation matters.
Yes, consistency matters.
Yes, excellence matters.
But so does community.
So does visibility.
So does having people who believe in you enough to open doors.
I wouldn’t have been in that room without Liesje Dusauzay who saw beyond where I was — and into where I was going. For that, I’m grateful.
